Five-day Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari

Kibale Forest has the highest number of primates in Africa – thirteen species in all, including red colobus, black and white colobus, blue monkeys, baboons and a large number of chimpanzees.

A forest walk provides a high possibility of seeing and hearing the vast number of chimps and other primates playing in the forest. With over 300 bird species also recorded, Kibale can boast of a truly exceptional amount of wildlife. An excursion to Bigodi and Magombe wetlands gives the opportunity of seeing the unique birdlife, chimps, baboons, monkeys and other primates which live around the swamp. Our five-day chimpanzee and wildlife safari itinerary ensures you experience the very best of this stunning region.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival
Arrive Entebbe airport. Meet, greet and transfer to Boma Guest House in Entebbe or to Hotel Africana or Bougainviller Hotel in Kampala for overnight.

Bed and breakfast included.

Day 2 – Kibale Forest
Start for Fort Portal via the pretty little town of Mubende set in the rolling hills. Stop at the Nakayima Shrine, an ancient tree known to be around 400 years old, worshipped by local people and thought to be holding the spirit of an ancient king. After a picnic lunch en route, we continue to Kibale.

Arrive in Kibale in the late afternoon. Relax at Crater Safari Lodge or explore Crater Lake nearby.

Full board basis whilst at Crater Safari Lodge.

Day 3 – Chimpanzee tracking
We take a guided nature walk in Kibale Forest, which has the highest number of primates in Africa – including red colobus, black and white colobus, blue monkeys, baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. As we walk through the forest, look out for chimps and other primates playing in the forest. Birdlife is also prolific, with over 300 species recorded in the forest. Take an afternoon walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary where birds and other primates live around the swamp.

Day 4 – Excursion to Semliki National Park
After breakfast, there is an excursion to Semliki National Park, where you will visit the hot springs dominated by boiling geysers. There is also the opportunity for a fascinating cultural encounter with the indigenous pygmy community located near the Ituri Rainforest. The Batwa people’s hunter-gatherer lifestyle means they have always been dependent on Semiliki Forest for food, shelter, medicine and tools.
